With Resistance $12.99 With Resistance: Kris (vocals); Joe (guitar, background vocals); Brian (guitar); Paul (bass); Mike (drums).Recorded at Portrait Studios, Lincoln Park, New Jersey.Personnel: Brian (guitar).Producers: Resistance; Chris Badami; With Resistance.Recording information: Portrait Studios, Lincoln Park East, NJ (12/20/2002/12/21/2002).The ten songs on this self-titled debut full-length from With Resistance seem over before you know it. The band delivers their music and message primarily through a straightforward hardcore sound, with melodic undertones, quality breakdowns, and change-ups ? la Botch. While many might label this New Jersey band as "metalcore," the sound on this album is more diverse than that, and the subtle differences of guitar tones makes them out to be an upfront hardcore band, as opposed to a sludgy metalcore band. Songs that start with delicate acoustic guitar quickly change to full-on hardcore and envelope the listener with it. With Resistance could quite easily be seen as a younger version of Botch, with a lot of room for development, primarily in the creativity area, as many of these songs seem hard to distinguish to the non-hardcore-tuned ear. Nonetheless, it's a quite solid start and leaves the door open for some good growth. ~ Kurt Morris |
